Investment Team

The portfolio is managed by the Special Situations team at Neuberger Berman. Lead portfolio manager, Michael Holmberg and Co-Portfolio managers, Brendan McDermott and Ravi Soni, have a combined 50 years of experience in Special Situations and Distressed Debt investing. They are backed by dedicated Special Situations investment professionals and one of the largest and most experienced credit teams in the industry.

Michael Holmberg

Michael J. Holmberg, Managing Director, joined NB Group in 2009. Michael is the head of Distressed and Special Situations portfolio management. Prior to joining NB Group, Michael founded Newberry Capital Management LLC in 2006 and prior to that Michael founded and managed Ritchie Capital Management's Special Credit Opportunities Group. He was also a managing director at Strategic Value Partners and Moore Strategic Value Partners. He began investing in distressed and credit oriented strategies as a portfolio manager at Continental Bank/Bank of America, where he established the bank's global proprietary capital account. Michael received an AB in economics from Kenyon College and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Brendan P. McDermott

Brendan P. McDermott, CPA , Senior Vice President on Special Situations team, joined the firm in 2009 and is Co-Portfolio Manager of the Distressed Debt funds. Prior to joining the firm, Brendan was responsible for analyzing Distressed and Special Situations investments at Newberry Capital Management. Prior to joining Newberry, Brendan held various positions at BNP Paribas’, Arthur Andersen and Huron Consulting. Brendan earned a BA from the College of the Holy Cross and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Ravi K. Soni

Ravi K. Soni, Senior Vice President on Special Situations team, joined the firm in 2009 and is Co-Portfolio Manager of the Distressed Debt funds. Prior to joining the firm, Ravi was responsible for analyzing Distressed and Special Situations investments at Newberry Capital Management. Prior to joining Newberry, Ravi held various positions at Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin and the Markit Group Limited. Ravi received his BBA from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
